Captain’s Status – “Happy New Years!”

I wanted to start the New Year with something a little festive. I was going to write 2012 on the sand but that would have been to easy. I came up with this idea last minute as the sun was peaking over the horizon. Even though it was bone chilling cold I was sweating trying to get this to line up before the sun rose into the clouds. It took me three handful of shells to make this work.
Being away from home for a long period of time always makes me miss the Florida beaches. As soon as I got back from my six week trip in Thailand, I spent every morning shooting the beach for 2 weeks straight! Photo above was taken and processed by Chris Evans.

By the time you get this newsletter I’ll be heading up to the Daytona area to shoot the Pounce De Leon Lighthouse. This lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Florida. The photo above was shot in 2009, it’s my only image of this lighthouse. I think it’s time to change that!

Speaking of Lighthouses my large canvas print that was hanging in the Jupiter Lighthouse Museum was sold to the Jupiter Chief of Police. Now that’s pretty cool knowing this photo is being displayed at the Chief’s office. What is even cooler is that the Chief wants me to sign the photo personally!

I didn’t think I was going to ever top my last Jupiter Lighthouse full moon shot. However this past full moon I think I just did with this bright orange moon rise photo above. Click here to view large.

Karen Sistek from karensistekstudio.com has selected an old photo montage that I did of a Great Blue Heron to be painted in silk. The above photo shows her working on the heron. You can see the original Captain Kimo image she used as reference. On the right is the final painted image on silk. But it’s not done yet, this piece is getting stitched also. Note the size of this piece, it’s 56x56inches. That’s pretty huge! Click here to view large.
