Grandma’s Big Fat Pig from Buriram, Thailand

Mar 16, 2011 | Animals & Wildlife, Travel & Culture

I wanted to get a good shot with Grandma in the pig pen but that has yet to come. Grandma is getting a little tired of me photographing her all the time. Don’t worry though, I’ll sneak a photo in when she’s not looking ;-)

Grandma raises pigs to sell for extra money on the side. This particular pig is a pregnant female due anytime soon, hopefully before I leave. The main source of meat here in Thailand, out in the country is pig, so raising pork here is a good business. She can get about 100 US dollars for a full grown pig, which equals out to 3,000 Thailand Baht. And from what I gathered 3,000 Baht is the average monthly income for most Thai folks. This is just my guess, I could be way off.
