Captain’s Status – Phuket, Thailand

I’m back in Phuket, Thailand where the weather has been mostly scattered showers. Photo above was taken from Layan Beach during one of those gloomy days. This photo was shot with my HD camcorder, the Canon Vixia HFS100. The really cool thing about this camcorder is that it shoots HDR images! The AEB is limited but it does a great job considering it’s a camcorder.

How Cambodians Deal with Pesky Insects

There I was having a cup of coffee at the lobby of this fancy hotel in Cambodia. From behind me I heard this scorching sound, followed by a sizzle. Then I felt a slight wave of heat flow around the back my neck. I turned around and saw the waiter holding a can of bug spray in one hand and a lighter in the other. His attention was focused on a small fly buzzing around the window. As the fly got closer, he sprayed the can and lit the vapor on fire. The flame instantly incinerated the pesky insect.

Upcoming Post – Panoramic HDR Tutorial

I’ve been writing a tutorial for shooting HDR panoramic photos. However the relaxing atmosphere here in Phuket has slowed me down from finishing it. Nevertheless I’m hoping to have this HDR Panoramic Tutorial posted before I leave Thailand.

Still working on the Photomatix Tone Mapping Tutorial. This post will have to wait until I get back to the states to finish. There are a few things in this article that will require faster internet access for me to present this tutorial in a understandable manner.

Upcoming Events – Back to America in 20 Days

I’ve been traveling for over two months in Thailand and Cambodia. My trip to Southeast Asia has been a very pleasant and relaxing experience but I look forward to flying back home. I miss watching the sunrise over Florida’s beaches. I look forward to photographing them when I get back. I miss it so much I plan on doing a tour of the entire Florida coast.
