Western Maryland Railway Train

Dec 9, 2010 | Photo Art & Montage, Railroads & Trains

This is the Majestic Old 734 a scenic train that runs from Cumberland to Frostburg, Maryland. I didn’t get a chance to ride the train but I was able to photograph it from both points of destination. It was interesting to watch how they turned the train around in Frostburg. Basically it was a big rotating platform that spun the train around. I got some pretty cool pictures of that too, I’ll post those later.

On the processing side, I added a texture to mute out the colors and bring out some detail. This was a standard 3 exposure HDR with my typical processing procedures. Something I’ve been doing lately, and I did it in this photo, is using Black and White Layer Adjustments to desaturate my colors. I do this by changing the opacity to 20%. It’s been working out pretty awesome. I might have to do a tutorial on it.
