Panoramic Landscape photo taken using HDR photography technique. Photo was shot out west in Loxahatchee. Panoramic landscape photography, especially high dynamic range panoramas can be very time consuming. However the results are very satisfying and rewarding.

This panoramic landscape photo is compiled of 9 shots from three different angles. One from the left, another from the center and the last from the right. I took 3 exposures of each angle so I can make an HDR panoramic. Most of my time was spent stitching images together which was a pain in the rear. Eventually I was able to compose it all to together seamlessly (I wish I knew about the Photoshop Photomerge tool then it wold have saved me a whole lot of time!). For reference I included all of the original exposures and the original Photomatix tone mapped verison for each angle.

Did you stitch first and then blend? Or blend first and then stitch? Which stitching software did you use? How did you adjust for the entrance point of the lens when making the panos? Any special equipment used? I would like to know more about your step-by-step technique and why is was so painful.
Great website, BTW. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise.
Hello Peter,
I had a hard time because I made it difficult from the beginning. I should have use a panoramic head but I didn’t. I didn’t use any special equipment at all. I shouldn’t have used my wide angle lens. Stitching was difficult to do because of the distortion. I didn’t use any panoramic software either. Not sure if it would have helped due to the distortion. As for the HDR part I blended first before I stitched. Next time I do a panoramic I’ll do the right way
Hope this helps.

Hi Kim,
Really nice image. The small size doesn’t do it justice. It’s really nice to be able to see the larger size. Love the wood detail and the clouds!
Thanks Sue, I made this photo larger than my other photos because it. All panos are best viewed large!
