Manfrotto 322rc2 Grip Action Ball Head

The Manfrotto 322rc2 grip action ball head has a solid all-metal construction. It has a patented joystick like grip which I have found to save me an enormous amount of time while photographing HDR images. This grip head is made from magnesium alloy and only weighs in at 1.5 lbs. Light as it may seem, it can surprisingly hold a camera plus a lens of up to 11 lbs combined. I've used it with my 100-400mm lens and the 322rc2 held steady.

Setting up the Manfrotto 322rc2 with the Manfrotto 055xdb tripod is super easy. Just screw the 322rc2 right on top of the tripod and you're good to go! It shouldn't take you no more than 5 minutes to setup.

After you've set up the 322rc2 you'll find that the quick release plate is a snap to take off and put back on. I did find however that the release plate attachment on the head is spring load so it gives an extra pop when you release the camera. This is good and bad, good because it's convenient and bad because if you don't have a firm grip, the camera will pop right off.  Luckily there is a safety release pin that keeps the camera from being accidentally released.

The Manfrotto 322rc2 is built solid I have no worries while carrying my tripod around with the camera attached. The head also gives me easy access to the view finder where I can easily compose my shots.

The only beef I have with this 344rc2 ball head is the limited amount of tilt it has to the right. This is due to the design of the ball head system but every system has its drawbacks. This limitation has yet to affect my photography in any way. If anything the time I gain composing my shot makes up for the time it takes for me to adjust my tripod. And rarely do I have to adjust the tripod.

The design of this Manfrotto ball head is also appealing. It has a partly matte black crackle and roughened finish that makes it comfortable to clasp. No matter where I go people are always in awe with this ball head grip system.

With its almost flawless design and ergonomics, the Manfrotto 322rc2 grip action ball head is indeed good as advertised. This ball head is, beyond doubt, highly recommended by the Captain. And if you don't believe me then read the 100 plus reviews at Amazon, 100 plus people can't be wrong!
