Frog Hunting with Grandma in Thailand

Feb 27, 2011 | Travel & Culture

Had a pretty interesting afternoon yesterday here in Thailand out in the country. I went with Grandma and the kids to the rice fields in Buriram/Isan to hunt frogs for dinner. Sounds like a pretty easy task… it wasn’t. First off it was scorching hot, don’t know why she would pick mid afternoon to go, but I guess Grandma knows best. Second challenge… these particular frogs are the type that borrow and live underground. But the worse part was finding the holes that they were living in. Wasn’t easy among the dried up foliage and cattle tracks. But eventually after digging a few dozen holes, and only finding crabs, we ended up with half a dozen frogs.
