This is the pier that is located in front the Gilbert House of Refuge on Hutchinson Island. I was there last week scouting out an area for the Super Moon rise. I already have a few shots of this pier. However none with sun rays so I thought I would add this to the list.

Sony NEX-5 high dynamic range (HDR) sample photo taken at Juno Beach Pier. This was a 5 exposure merge tone mapped in Photomatix Pro and enhanced using Topaz Plugins.

I’ve recently purchased a Sony NEX-5 and have been testing it out. So far there is something about the image quality when tone mapped just doesn’t quite feel right. It could be a lack of range in each exposure so that’s why I shot 5 exposures for this image. That only helped to reduce noise. Next time I’ll drop the under exposure a full 3 stops to see if that helps any. I’ll update once I figure it all out. The main reason I bought the Sony NEX-5 was so I can have a portable camera with decent image quality when I go to Thailand next month. If I don’t get the HDR the way I like, I might end up getting a Canon Rebel.

It’s rare I do any macro work, mainly because I don’t have a macro lens. But the telephoto lens that I shot this Dragonfly with does a very good job of getting up close. However the image isn’t as sharp as I would like. I won’t complain though since I did shoot it with my birding lens, lol. And for those who are curious which lens it is… 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L, highly recommend this lens.

I wanted to do something a little festive to go Mother’s Day today. Here are some purple flowers from Lake Istokpoga that I thought would go well. Anyways… I’ve been super busy getting ready for my Thailand trip coming up next month so I haven’t had much time for anything else. So until I’m free I won’t be doing much commenting or emailing. Until then I hope everyone has a great Mother’s Day!

The evening of the Super Moon was nice and clear giving the eastern horizon a nice pinkish cast that I love seeing at sunset. This was shot at the Hillsboro Bay Inlet from a park that has a great view of the HIllsboro Lighthouse.

I almost forgot to do a post for today! That’s no way to get to ten thousand photos by the end of this year, lol. Actually I’m hoping to get to 10,000 within 2 years but even that is a task in itself. I would have to post 10 photos a day for 2 years to hit that number. That’s a lot of photos! Anyways… this was taken the night after the Super Full Moon Rise that recently passed. I got a very beautiful moon rise that night. I don’t think it could have been any more perfect.

So I had my webinar yesterday, which was sponsored by Topaz and co-sponsored by Photomatix, and it went pretty well. It was a little exhausting for me since I covered my entire workflow! But from all the feedback I got I think a lot of people were pretty happy with my presentation. The webinar had over 1k attendees and 1900 registered so it was a big success in terms of audience. The video from this webinar will be posted soon on Youtube so for those who missed it you’ll also have a chance to see me in action. I’ve also been talking with Ashely from Topaz and I’m pretty sure we’ll be doing another webinar soon so keep your eyes open for that date!

The other morning, at the beach during sunrise, I had an amazing display of sun rays. Too bad there was a lack in wave action. One of these days I’ll get all the conditions just right. But with my luck I’ll probably end up not having a camera for that moment, lol.
