Topaz Plugins - Photoshop enhancement plugin.
PS Elements - Used for post processing HDR images.
Lightroom - For adding the finishing touch.

Installing Presets in Photomatix Pro on Windows or MAC

How to install a Photomatix preset into Photomatix Pro video, for Windows or MAC. Installing the preset is easy but the problem is finding the right folder to put the Photomatix presets in. Watch this video and I will show you how to easily find the folder you need. Video was captured on a Windows machine but MAC and Apple users should find this video equally helpful.

This is a quick video I did to show people how to install actions in Photoshop. Installing a Photoshop action is easy in Adobe Photoshop CS versions but when it comes to Adobe Photoshop Elements, it can be a little tricky. This is because you have to locate the proper folder to put the action into. In this video I will show you how to locate this illusive folder to install and run the Photoshop action. Note this was recorded on Windows 7 computer running Photoshop CS4 and Elements 9. However MAC users will find this How-to video helpful also.

HDR Time Lapse Video from Canon PowerShot S90

Finally I had a chance to do some HDR Time Lapse Video with my new little toy the Canon PowerShot S90. This little camera makes it very easy for me to capture these time lapses because of a hack from CHDK. Basically CHDK allows added functionality to a variety of Canon PowerShot cameras. One of the function is a intervalometer which lets me take a number of shots when I supply a specific value. It is totally cool to say the least!

Another HDR Time Lapse Video from Bangkok, Thailand

Shooting time lapse HDR video with an SLR camera can be pretty time consuming, especially when you do it manually. I’m gonna have to buy a remote if I plan on doing more of this type of photography. I might even by a camera specifically for doing time lapse. The Pentax K-7 would be a good candidate since it does HDR in-camera. This would save me a step in the time lapse process allowing me to go straight to video.

Software Used for Processing Photo:
Photomatix – Used for creating high dynamic range.
Topaz Adjust – Photoshop plugin used to enhance details.
Topaz DeNoise – Photoshop plugin used to eliminate noise.
Topaz Clean – Photoshop plugin used to smooth pixels.

Adobe Photoshop CS5 is Better at Healing

Adobe Photoshop CS5 might not have impressed me with their new HDR Pro features, but I am certainly impressed by the improvement in the new CS5 healing tool. Photoshop CS5′s healing tool has been improved with a new Content Aware logic. This new system allows the healing tool to recreate large image area, making retouching easier.

Retouching large areas of unwanted debris has always been my most time consuming process. I try not to retouch large areas too often, but when I do, it becomes a nightmare. I can’t wait to start using the new CS5 healing tool. I’m sure it’s not a solve all system, but I know from watching the video below, it’ll save me a lot of time.

HDR Pro for Adobe Photoshop CS5 with new tone mapping options.

I finally had some time to check out Adobe Photoshop CS5 and see what new features Adobe had in store. The one feature I was most interested in for CS5, as you probably guessed, is the new HDR Pro tool. So far from what I’ve seen in the video below, I’m not impressed. But when I get my copy of CS5 I’ll do a full review of the new high dynamic range features available.

The one good thing I did see with the new Photoshop CS5 HDR tool is in the tone mapping. Looks like Adobe finally added some options for us to play around with. The current version of Photoshop literally has no controls for tone mapping what so ever. Check out the video below from YouTube and tell me what you think.

Photoshop Grass – Turn Dead Grass Green

This is an older post from the old CaptainKimo.com website. This post got lost in the transfer over. Video got lots of responses and I plan on redoing a new video for this post eventually, but for now I’m just re-posting since it never got re-posted in the first place.

Photoshop can do many things one of them is taking care of the lawn. In this 3 minute video I will show you how to turn dead grass into green grass. Photoshop grass can look pretty cool if you do it right, especially with an HDR photograph. It almost gives the grass a life of its’ own. This is my second quick tip for Photoshop and I hope you enjoy. Please leave me some feedback and don’t forget to tell your friends!
