Official Launch Date March 15 - Next Monday sticky icon

Now that I am 90% done, I have a good idea when everything will be completed... so mark your calendar, March 15th the new site will go live!

The new site has been hard work but I am so glad I did what I did. It'll be much easier now to update my photos and my posts. We will also be able to communicate better with comments. The other system was terrible at that.

I apologize to those who have commented recently. I did read them and I thank you for your support. But the new site will be starting fresh with no comments.

Anyways... I have a lot of work still, so see you on March 15th!

Cheers,

Captain Kimo

New Site Delayed sticky icon

I ran into some technical problems. Window 7 Beta expired 1st of March so I was forced to backup all my data and reinstall W7... and every other program... on 3 machines! What a pain. Good news is I got the main HDR tutorial done. However I still got 2 more tutorials to write. One on self portrait HDR as promised, and the other one is an updated single exposure HDR tutorial. Once I get those tutorials written I'll start moving all the old content to the new site. I should be done by next week but give me 2 weeks at the latest. Believe me I can't wait to get done. I've been itching to go out and do some shooting.

Thanks for checking in!

Cheers, Kimo

Everything Changing Soon!!! sticky icon

Time sure is flying fast. I haven't posted anything in 2 weeks. I know... I'm a bad blogger but there is a good reason for it. I've been busy working on the new CaptainKimo.com and it's almost complete! I'm excited and I'm sure you are too. Especially with all the new tutorials that's going to be added along with it. I've been working night and day to get it done and I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Enough talk... I have more work to do. Expect the new site to be up by the first of March. See you then!

Cheers, Captain Kimo

P.S. Don't expect any new photos to be posted until then :( sorry but I'm just a one man show.

Website Undergoing Major Changes sticky icon

I want to apologize to all the loyal Captain Kimo fans out there who frequently visit this site. I know I haven't been posting photos as often as I use to. That's because I've been busy working on two new projects. Actually... there is a third project but that's been put on hold since I'm only a one man show.

Photo Editing from a Flickr Friend

It's cool to see how other people see. That's one of the reasons why I attach the original exposures to all of my photo posts. We all have different taste and when it comes to art we all see beauty differently.

These are a couple of edits that K.G.Photos has done with my photos.

Working on Some Different Stuff

Soldier Girl I've been working on some newer stuff, shooting models and creating scenes. Something I've always enjoyed doing ever since I was young which was drawing comic books. I loved drawing super heros with guns and the whole shhh bang.

Now that I've grown up there is no more pencil, just a camera and computer. Which works out good since I seem to be more focused on the monitor than on paper anyways. Plus I help to conserve our natural resourses by saving trees from being cut down to make paper and pencil. Woot... I'm doing my part!

This shot was taken at one of the coolest places in Jupiter, Florida, an abandoned underground parking garage. You don't find to many places like this in Florida. I shot this using one strobe shot head on. I just wish I had an extra light for backlight. I plan on doing more shoots like this and experimenting with different techniques.

Completed a Tutorial from PSDTUTS

Kama Texture PortraitureI found this tutorial from a photographer friend and thought it was perfect for something I've been wanting to accomplish. I really love the graphic style that this tutorial achieves. The results almost resembles the David Hill look I've been trying to achieve for so long. The tutorial can be found by clicking here. It's a long tutorial but most of the steps are pretty easy to follow. I would highly recommend doing the tutorial, I learned a lot from it.

Hummingbird Photograph with Textures

Hummingbird Texture

I had the opportunity to photograph some hummingbirds while at Butterfly World. This shot was taken with my 100-400 lens. I thought this photo came out great and very sharp considering the speed the bird was flying at. I also used a flash to get more detail in the feathers. Texture and background was added for more visual interest. I've seen so many interesting photos on flickr with hummingbirds and textures I couldn't resist doing one myself.

Another HDR Photo Going into Exhibition

Green Cay Sunrise has been selected for exhibition at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre's 13 Annual INFOCUS Juried Exhibition. This will be the first show at the newly built gallery located in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida, on Clematis Street. For more information about the Palm Beach Photographic Centre visit their website at http://workshop.org

River of Ice at World View Exhibition

River of Ice, has been selected for the World Views exhibition held by South East Gallery of Photographic Art. From October 1st to November 26th of 2009 you will be able to view this photograph among many other amazing photos from around the world. This exhibition focuses on photographs taken on travels in the United States and around the world. Exhibition will feature photos exploring the uncommon, the breathtaking, or maybe just a point of view.
